Nearly 20years ago, Mark Oberman along with wife Janie and Partner Tom Driscoll, pioneered the opening of the Camarillo Airport (formerly the Oxnard Air Force Base) by opening Channel Islands Aviation, Inc. (CIA) a full service Fixed Base Operation. CIA's facility includes a 38,000' hangar (13,000squaremeters) with additional 6,000' of offices (2,000squaremeters), lobby, school classroom and flight planning room with computerized weather briefing and direct lines to flight service.

About 20years CIA has been providing a variety of services which include aircraft and helicopter flight training, fuel sales, ramp services and hangar storage, aircraft sales, charter, parts and complete engine and airframe maintenance. CIA is also a Cessna Aircraft Service Center and has Cessna and Robinson factory trained mechanics on staff. Additionally, CIA provides daily routine transportation and air medivac support to a number of the California Channel Islands located just off the coast from Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

CIA has been training foreign students since 1980and is approved by the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services to issue M-1 Visa. CIA is also approved by the State of California as a post secondary educational facility.

CIA operates a fleet of well equipped charter, flight school, rental aircraft and helicopters including the Cessna 152, 172, 172RG, 182, T210, 337, 402C, 414A, Piper Arrow and Seneca 1, Britten Norman Islander and Robinson R-22 Helicopter. Transition courses are available in the Cessna 402C and Britten-Norman Islander.

CIA has enjoyed a fine reputation with its commitment to excellence while providing highly qualified flight instructors and support staff. It is our commitment to professionalism and safety, with high standards for training, that has allowed our school to prosper while producing superior pilots.

Graduates from Channel Islands Aviation, Inc. will have received a well rounded instruction in aerodynamics, meteorology, airspace utilization, FAA regulations, aircraft systems, aircraft performance, navigation, and the use of charts and flight computers.
